Abstract of the Final Exam: Flying Fishes
ABSTRACT
GRACE RIJOLY, SN: 2005-64-001. COMPOSITION AND
STOK ABUNDANCE OF FLYING FISH IN THE SURROUNDING WATERS OF HUKURILA VILLAGE, SOUTH LEITIMUR DISTRICT OF AMBON CITY. SUPERVISED BY: D.
SAHETAPY AND S. HAUMAHU.
Research was conducted on March to
July 2012 in Hukurila Village and surrounding waters. The aims of research are
to identifying taxon composition, describe species and analyses stock abundance,
as well as Catch Per Unit of Effort (CPUE) value of flying fish in the Hukurila
Village and surrounding waters. Flying
fish data were conducted using drift gill net that operated toward the night (18.00
– 21.00 WIT) and in the morning (06.00-10.00 WIT) base on moon age period.
Sample of flying fish that obtained than identified follows Weber and
Beaufort (1922), Munro (1967) Parin (1999). Analysis
of morphometric and meristic parameters were conducted follows Munro
(1967); Trautman (1957) in Lagler et al., (1977); Gloerfelt-Tarp and Kailola (1984); Rijoly (1987); and
Parin (1999). Density and stock abundance of flying
fish were analyzed use method that recommended by Gunderson (1993) and Sparre and Venema (1999). At least 17 species of flying fish belonging to 4 genera
occupies in Hukurila Village and surrounding
waters, where all of these flying fish species have been analyzed and compiled its
description. Distinguishes characters of these 17 flying fish species existed
black spot and motif cross band on features of Pectoral Fin, Ventral Fin and Dorsal Fin, branch
on lateral line, and number of rays without branches on pectoral fins. The highest density
and stock abundance of flying fish were
found on the last quarter, while the lowest density and stock abundance of
flying fish were occupied on full moon. Potential time for utilization the
flying fish is toward the morning time, that is between 06.00 - 10.00 of East
Part Indonesian Time for each moon period. Based on duration of drift gill net
operating, than the highest CPUE value of flying fish were occupied on the last
quarter and the lowest CPUE value on full moon period. On the other hand, based
on the gill net drifting distance, so that the highest CPUE value were found on
first quarter and the lowest CPUE value on full moon period. Cheilopogon cyanopterus is a dominance flying
fish species in catch, and its have the highest density, stock abundance and
CPUE value on all moon period.
